With the rapid pace of change in the health care industry placing a heightened emphasis on ethics, Valparaiso University has developed a Master of Science in Health Management degree program designed to foster values-based leadership.
The MS-HMP degree, which is available 100 percent online, places ethics at the forefront of healthcare policy in order to prepare professionals to become industry leaders. Core courses include Legal Issues and Compliance in Health Care, Financial Management and Ethics in Health Care.
While ethical considerations have long been a vital component in the decision-making of physicians, nurses and other hands-on medical practitioners, they also are a growing factor in the business-related aspects of the healthcare industry.
“With healthcare’s dramatic transformation, the ability to understand policy and ethics becomes particularly important,” said David Rowland, Ph.D., Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School. “Our innovative program provides healthcare professionals with the critical-thinking skills and training they’ll need to make sound decisions in their patients’ best interests.”
Valparaiso University, an independent Lutheran institution ranked a top 10 Best Midwestern Regional College by U.S. News & World Report, offers a unique curriculum that blends policy, management and values-based ethics. Students can choose from among four specializations:
The 100 percent online graduate degree program consists of 36 credit hours, including nine credits in a specialization track. Working professionals can take advantage of anytime, anywhere access to streaming and downloadable lectures, professor-led live chat rooms and interactive discussion boards.
