The federal Health IT Standards Committee (HITPC) recently announced it is reorganizing its workgroup structures, according to healthcare-informatics.com.
The revised plan includes the formation of four workgroups, with experts in privacy/security and patient engagement expected to contribute to each.

The new structure is described as a “matrixed organization”; a steering committee will guide teams focused on vocabulary, data structure, transport, security and services, according to healthcare-informatics.com.
In addition to the workgroup restructure announcement, National Coordinator Karen DeSalvo, M.D., announced several changes in committee leadership, the site reported.
According to the healthcare-informatics.com report, Jonathan Perlin, M.D., is stepping down as committee chairman. Perlin recently was named the next chairman of the American Hospital Association.
ONC’s Jacob Reider, M.D., was named committee chairman; John Halamka, M.D., will remain vice chairman.
